An expert mission was organized in Vinca Institute between September 3 and September 7, in the framework of the IAEA Technical Cooperation project SRB/6/016 „Strengthening Calibration Services at the Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory for Radiotherapy Applications”. The IAEA appointed the expert, Dr. Liviu-Cristian Mihailescu, from the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN). The Department of Radiation and Environmental Protection was the host in the Vinca Institute.

The goal of the mission was to prepare for the installation of the new radiotherapy source, improve existing calibration methods and to develop new calibration methods for brachytherapy chambers and surface contamination monitors. Besides the work that was done in Vinca Institute, additional measurements were performed using brachytherapy chambers in Oncology Institute of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica. The expert also presented the advances in calibrations of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine chambers at the annual meeting of the Serbian Association of Medical Physicists, that was held in Pirot on 7th September 2024.
