An important part of our activities is related to environmental radioactivity as an investigation of radionuclide behaviour in the environment (air, water, soil, food), including the presence of natural radionuclides in certain industrial branches, thermal power plants, fertilizer production, building material production, and many others. Results of the radionuclide activity assessment are further used to investigate correlations, for modelling of various processes and for the estimation of radiation risk associated with the exposure to ionizing radiation.

The detection of radioactivity in the environment is performed at specialized and adequately equipped laboratory, accredited according to SRPS ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 both for different analyses and sampling. The Laboratory is a member of the ALMERA group. The selection of the analysis method to be used is determined depending on the kind of sample and the radioactive agent intended to be detected.  Our measurements are related to:

  • Soil, water, food, air filters and other samples, using gamma spectroscopic analysis and gross alpha/beta radiation;
  • Radiological analysis of water samples from tanks, lakes and drillings for identifying artificial radioisotopes;
  • Food to be exported from or distributed in the Republic of Serbia;
  • Imported materials and goods,
  • Building materials and materials to be used for the industrial production of building materials;
  • Materials with increased natural radiation (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material, NORM),
  • Areas with increased levels of natural radiation;
  • Scrap material.

Analyses are provided upon request; the procedure includes the following steps:

  • Communication (via phone or e-mail) with the Laboratory in order to schedule the requested work
  • Delivery of samples to the Laboratory. The customer is required to submit an application form
  • Upon request, we can perform sampling, as well;
  • As soon as the analysis has been completed, the report is delivered to the customer (either by e-mail and by post)
  • The payment of a debit amount has to be done to a Vinca Institute bank account.
